Unconscious Memories Of Cars And Colors

Using the project 'Gradient Inheritance' as a starting point, 'Unconscious Memories Of Cars' and colors is a deepening exploration of color. As a child, Joëlle often went along to her father's company and learned how to handle colors instinctively. Therefore, this was the fundamental principle from the start; working instinctively. Everything was selected and worked from a certain intuition. Different paint techniques were explored such as dip dye or watercolor techniques applied to canvas, but the finest way of working was spray paint for Joelle. To capture the shine that automotive paint possesses in dust, Joëlle used certain coatings. These can be seen, for example, in the Cadillac jacket where the fabric was worked on up to three times to get the perfect result.
